India’s Asian Games gold tally reaches seven with archery win

India’s gold medal tally at the Asian Games 2026 reached seven with a win in women’s compound archery.

The team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi beat China 238-234.

India’s score equalled the team world record of 238.

The win came on September 30.

India’s squash team also advanced on the same day, beating Singapore in the quarterfinals.

It is India’s seventh gold medal at these Asian Games.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam is one of India’s most experienced compound archers, with multiple international medals to her name.

Compound archery uses a bow with a system of pulleys and cables, distinct from the recurve bows used in Olympic archery.

The Asian Games 2026 are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

India’s women’s squash team also advanced at these Games on the same day, beating Singapore 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

The Aichi-Nagoya Games venue for archery has hosted several high-scoring matches across the competition.
