Sensex closes at 76,059.77, Nifty at 23,767.45 in fifth day of losses
The Sensex settled at 76,059.77 and the Nifty 50 at 23,767.45 on Friday, both down for a fifth straight session as crude oil prices rose on US-Iran tensions.
The BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty 50 closed lower for a fifth straight session on Friday, extending a week of losses driven by rising crude oil prices.
The Sensex ended the day at 76,059.77, down 331.62 points or 0.43 per cent. The Nifty 50 settled at 23,767.45, down 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, slipping under the 23,800 level.
The rise in crude oil prices has been linked to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, which have kept global energy markets on edge through the week.
Auto, metal and energy stocks were the worst performers on the day, while IT and media stocks bucked the trend to close higher.
Friday’s session extended the current losing streak for both benchmark indices to five consecutive trading days.
