Alia Bhatt asks fans to help Assam flood relief efforts
Alia Bhatt has asked her fans to help Assam flood relief efforts, as the death toll and displacement figures rise.
Alia Bhatt asked her fans to help Assam flood relief efforts in an Instagram Stories post on Wednesday.
“It happens every year and it still catches us off guard,” she wrote, describing the annual toll the monsoon takes on the state.
She continued, “Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery,” underlining the scale of both urgent and long-term needs.
The death toll from the floods has crossed 60, and was later revised to 75 by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
Roughly 4.45 lakh people across 631 villages have been affected, with families losing homes, farmland and livestock to the floodwaters.
Bhatt said she would use her platform in the coming days to point followers to relief organisations working on the ground, tagging posts with the hashtag #CircleOfHope.
She joins a list of Bollywood personalities responding to the crisis, including Salman Khan, whose Being Human foundation has begun a multi-phase relief effort providing food and essential supplies.
Bhumi Pednekar has also extended her support, while Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap have contributed to the Assam Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
Rescue and relief operations remain underway across the worst-hit parts of the state.
Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Nagaon are among the districts worst hit, with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries rising above danger levels after heavy rainfall, and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed ministers to coordinate the state’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Assam floods have become an annual monsoon crisis in the state, with rivers including the Brahmaputra regularly breaching embankments and displacing large numbers of families across low-lying districts.
Bollywood celebrities have a long history of using their social media platforms to draw national attention to disaster relief efforts, often crediting on-ground organisations directly to help channel donations more effectively.

Mirzapur: The Movie collects Rs 25.15 crore on day 1
Mirzapur: The Movie collected Rs 25.15 crore net in India on its opening day, becoming the fourth-biggest Hindi opener of 2026 behind Dhurandhar 2, Toxic and Border 2.
Mirzapur: The Movie collected Rs 25.15 crore net in India on its opening day, ranking as the fourth-biggest Hindi opener of 2026.
The film posted a theatrical occupancy of 42.81% on September 4, a strong result for its theatrical debut.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh attributed the response to the Mirzapur franchise’s loyal fan base turning up in full strength.
Mirzapur trails Dhurandhar 2 (around Rs 99 crore), Toxic (around Rs 55 crore) and Border 2 (Rs 30 crore) among this year’s top openers.
The Janmashtami holiday and a weak second Friday for Toxic, at Rs 1.75 crore, both boosted Mirzapur’s opening-day numbers.
The film’s theatrical occupancy stood at 42.81% on opening day, a solid figure for a Hindi-language release competing in a crowded late-2026 slate.
Mirzapur: The Movie marks one of the more high-profile attempts to convert a hit streaming franchise into a full theatrical release, following the show’s three successful seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
The film stars the franchise’s original ensemble, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu as Munna Bhaiya, alongside newer additions such as Ravi Kishan.
Analysts expect the film’s momentum to carry into the weekend, aided by the absence of major new theatrical competition in its release window.
The film released in both Hindi and Telugu on September 4, 2026, expanding its reach beyond the franchise’s traditional Hindi-speaking streaming audience.
The film’s opening places it fourth among 2026’s biggest openers, behind Dhurandhar 2 at roughly Rs 99 crore, Toxic at roughly Rs 55 crore and Border 2 at Rs 30 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the response reflected the strength of the Mirzapur franchise’s fan base, noting that loyal viewers had turned up in full strength for the theatrical debut.
The film also benefited from the Janmashtami holiday, which added to footfall on its opening day.
