Bharat NCAP is India’s crash test programme that rates cars from one to five stars.

Autocar India says the Bayon is engineered for a 5-star rating.

That is a design target and not a result, since no crash test result has been announced.

Hyundai says the SUV has six airbags and more than 35 standard safety features.

Prices will be announced on October 26.

The Bayon has begun reaching dealerships ahead of launch, according to Autocar India and CarWale.

The engine is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol making 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, according to Autocar India.

Carlelo gives the engine’s output as 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm at 4,500 rpm, and says Hyundai has confirmed only this engine so far.

It comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic. Autocar India calls the automatic a CVT, while Carlelo calls it an IVT, so the name differs between reports.

A factory-fitted CNG option is expected later, according to Autocar India. Hyundai has not confirmed it, according to Carlelo.

Carlelo gives the length as 4.24 metres, while Autocar India’s article gives no dimensions.

The SUV is built on Hyundai’s Global K Enhanced platform, according to both reports.

Features listed include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, dual 12.3-inch displays, a generative AI voice assistant, Bose audio, a wireless phone charger and over-the-air updates.

Carlelo adds 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker Bose system and a 411-litre boot.

Hyundai says there are more than 35 standard safety features, including six airbags and electronic stability control, according to Autocar India.

Top variants get Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and blind-spot detection, according to the same report.

Autocar India says the SUV is engineered for a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. This is an engineering target and not a rating, since no crash test result has been announced.
