Governors, CEOs and Bollywood Names: The Growing List of Honors for Kolkata’s Abhiraj Shee

Abhiraj Shee, a 12-year-old student from Kolkata recognized for memory feats and academic competitions, has been felicitated by a wide roster of public figures over the past three years, including the Governor of West Bengal, the Chief Minister of Goa in Goa, former Union ministers Smriti Irani and Meenakshi Lekhi, Padma Shri awardee Deepa Malik, badminton player Saina Nehwal, and actors Mugdha Godse, Ena Saha, Ali Khan and Kharaj Mukhopadhyay, according to event photographs and documentation provided by his family.

The felicitations, mostly tied to award ceremonies rather than direct endorsements, also include appearances alongside former Goa chief minister Digambar Kamath, ISRO spacecraft scientist U.N. Vasantha Kumari, and representatives of Tata Consultancy Services, Indigo Airlines and India Book of Records, the family said, adding that many more personalities and organizations have felicitated Shee beyond those named here. None of the individuals named have issued public statements specifically evaluating Shee’s body of work beyond the award presentations themselves, and this report could not independently confirm the substance of any remarks made at the events.

Delhi Public School Megacity Kolkata, where Shee studies, said its own recognitions of the student — including acknowledgment from Director Suman Singh and Principal Tilottama Mallik — have been part of routine school assemblies rather than external ceremonies.

A Crowded Awards Calendar

Family-supplied records list more than a dozen named honors received in the 2025-26 period alone, including the Royal Bengal Excellence Award from Aranya Bangla Foundation, the International Growth Excellence Award from High Hopes and Big Life, and the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Bharatiya Ratna Sanman from Worthy Wellness Foundation. Several of these organizations are small foundations without extensive public track records, and this publication was unable to independently verify their selection criteria or the scale of their award programs.

Award-industry observers note that a proliferation of privately run “excellence award” ceremonies has emerged across India in recent years, some of which charge participation or hosting fees — a pattern not confirmed in Shee’s specific case but relevant context for readers evaluating cumulative honor counts.

Business Excellence Recognition

At the Business Excellence India Awards 2026, held at Taj Tal Kutir in Kolkata, Shee received an Extraordinary Young Achiever honor presented by badminton player Saina Nehwal and actress Ena Saha, according to event organizers Prestige Sphere and Epoxy Master.
