The BCCI held a high-level review meeting in Mumbai on Thursday, with Rohit Sharma’s ODI future, alongside Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s, on the agenda ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

The meeting also considered the ODI status of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, with both seen as facing less pressure than Rohit.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Committee of Experts head VVS Laxman were among those in attendance.
The review spanned injury management, India’s 2027 ODI World Cup plans, and player availability for the upcoming New Zealand tour.
Speculation continues that a selection committee member had already told Rohit the panel wanted to move on from his ODI role.
Rohit was reportedly also asked about his future plans following India’s Lord’s ODI during the team’s recent tour of England.
The review is also expected to cover injury management protocols and player availability ahead of India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand.
India’s 2027 ODI World Cup planning has become a growing focus for the BCCI, with the review meeting expected to shape squad direction over the coming months.
The review comes at a point where the senior core of India’s ODI side, several of whom have played key roles in past World Cup campaigns, faces a natural generational transition.
Any decisions from the meeting on player futures are expected to be communicated through official BCCI channels rather than leaked selection discussions.
The meeting brought together head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Committee of Experts head VVS Laxman in Mumbai.
Captain Shubman Gill and ODI captain Shreyas Iyer were also expected to attend, alongside BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and president Mirthun Manhas.
Kohli and Jadeja are not believed to be under significant pressure over their ODI futures, with the greater share of attention centred on Rohit Sharma’s position.
There has been speculation that a member of the selection committee had already informed Rohit that the panel wanted to move on from his ODI role.

Richa Ghosh’s late blitz powers India to record Asian Games total
India Women won their first Asian Games cricket gold on September 22, thrashing Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final, with Smriti Mandhana becoming the first woman cricketer to reach 11,000 international runs during the innings.
Richa Ghosh scored an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls to help India post 216 for 3 in the Asian Games cricket final on September 22.
It is the highest total in Asian Games women’s cricket history.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma had earlier added 99 for the first wicket.
India went on to bowl Sri Lanka out for 69, winning the match by 147 runs.
The win gave India back-to-back Asian Games cricket gold medals.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 69 in reply, struggling against India’s spin attack.
Deepti Sharma took 3 for 6, while Shafali Verma and Shree Charani each took two wickets.
During her innings, Smriti Mandhana became the first woman cricketer to reach 11,000 international runs, needing just 13 runs at the start of the match to reach the landmark.
Mandhana’s overall tally at 11,000 runs comprises 788 Test runs, 5,411 ODI runs and 4,788 T20I runs.
It is India’s second consecutive Asian Games gold in women’s cricket, following their first title at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, also against Sri Lanka.
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur lifted the trophy after the win.
The win came a day after India reached the final on the back of Shafali Verma’s unbeaten century in the semifinal against Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka had reached the final by beating Pakistan by eight wickets in their semifinal.
The Asian Games 2026 are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, running from September 19 to October 4.
India has continued to add medals in other sports at the Games, including in shooting, hockey and weightlifting.

Defending champions India Women face Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2026 gold medal cricket match on Tuesday, September 22, at 10:30 am IST at Korogi Sports Park, with India chasing back-to-back titles.

India are the defending champions in the event.

The Asian Games 2026 are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
India has already won medals in other sports at these Games, including silvers in shooting and a bronze in mixed martial arts.
Weather was flagged as a possible factor for the final, given the wider spell of rain and thunderstorms forecast across parts of India and the region this week.

Deepti Sharma and Nandani Sharma took three wickets each as Bangladesh collapsed to 81.
The 114-run margin was India’s emphatic answer to a Bangladesh side that had reached the semifinal without playing a completed quarterfinal.
India will meet Sri Lanka in the gold medal match on Tuesday, September 22, while Bangladesh will play Pakistan for bronze.
The win guarantees India at least a silver medal at the Asian Games.

Sree Charani was India’s leading bowler in the quarterfinal against Japan, taking four wickets.
